Attitudes needed for learning singing
Singing
skills can be acquired in the same way other skills are acquired:-
through education, practice and exposure to musical environments.
Natural talent and growing up in a music loving household are big
advantages, but these days standards of performance are so high that
all singers need training of one sort or another. The younger you
commence lessons the better, but one can learn singing at any age if
you have the willingness to learn new ways of doing things and the
persistence to stick at it until you correct all faults and have
developed your strengths. The purpose of singing lessons is to
receive instruction at a practical level, and to be given guidance or
a strategy for developing one's abilities. This usually means
learning a significant repertoire of songs and then auditioning for
performance opportunities to add to one's experience. It takes time,
but there are many joys along the journey.
