Motivation for learning

As against the costs of learning singing of time, effort and money, come the rewards that music offers. To some it means a career that is glamorous and artistically fulfilling, always challenging and never dull. To others it means occasional extra income and a passion that balances the mundane daily grind. At all levels music is a very sociable activity, and one can work with very talented people and meet a wide range of personalities, from diverse backrounds. Even within the home, singing and the love for music that it brings can create an atmosphere where children are encouraged to express their feelings and explore their creativity, and the family has interests it can willingly share. Many educational studies have shown that learning music increases mental abilities, in the areas of concentration, memory, analytical skills, organisational ability and language skills. The pleasure that music brings is fairly obvious, and that pleasure increases the better one gets. Other reasons people study music include the desire for self-improvement; the wish to create an image as a person with varied talents & as a stimulating and interesting conversationalist; to be able to hold one's own in musical circles; to pursue a passion simply for its own sake; to be able to contribute to the needs of others later on, by developing & using one's musical talents for the pleasure & entertainment of others. Many feel they lack confidence more than ability, & they start lessons in order to acquire a knowledge of what is really involved in learning music. Who wants to be one of the people sitting in the corner of the nursing home muttering "I could have been...if only..." More info
