Studio Etiquette
Turn up for lessons regularly and reliably (ie weekly).
It's courteous to be on time.
Be appreciative of the teacher's efforts, especially if they run over time to give you extra help.
Be prepared to pay for missed lessons, either in full or a cancellation fee, depending on studio policy. Lessons are your teacher's livelihood, and their living costs don't decrease just because you don't turn up for your lesson. How would you feel if your boss rang you at 11am to say that from 2.30 to 3.30 your services wouldn't be required this week, and that you won't be paid for that time either?
If a teacher is able to reschedule your lesson for another time that week, be appreciative.
Try to practice at least 3 times a week. Of course, the more often the better, but in the frenetic modern world, it's better to be realistic and have achievable goals. All you are looking for is consistent improvement. Slow & steady....
Accept the teacher's knowledge and experience when it comes to repertoire. Most teachers are happy to do some of your favourite songs, as long as you also learn the songs that they feel will help your voice develop. Not every song has to be "fun". Sometimes a song will just seem like plain hard work from the student's viewpoint, but it may nevertheless develop the voice significantly in the long run.
Look for performing opportunities when you feel ready, so that lessons can have some extra impetus from time to time.
